Pequeña Finca translates to small farm, a name that spotlights small scale coffee producers who champion the excellent reputation Huila commands.
Bordered by the east and central ranges of the Andes, mostly lying within Magdalena Valley, coffee cultivation covers 155,000 hectares in the Huila department accounting for 18% of Colombia’s production. Farms average 1.5 hectares, annually producing close to 30 bags each. Even at this boutique level, the majority of farms have a wet mill on their property, as they are of a tradition focused on optimising quality from the best farm management and processing techniques, over quantity of production.
Huila fosters a culture that treasures eco-friendly practices, with a department-wide strategy – Plan Huila 2050 – to safeguard the bounties of the natural environment and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
